Doors are "panels" of blocks that can be removed to storage and then replaced via a Craftbook mechanism. The size of the door is set by the blocks connected to the two specially marked signs, which also trigger the mechanism's operation. They are the vertical equivalent to bridges which operate on a horizontal group of blocks.

Construction

  • Doors can be toggled with the [Door Up] and [Door Down] sign, either by right-clicking, or activating with a Redstone signal running straight into the sign.
    • Any of the signs ([Door Up], [Door Down], [Door]) may be used to mark the "other end" of a door. But to be activated, the [Door Up] sign must be at the bottom of the door, and the [Door Down] sign must be at the top.
  • The door "borders", that is the type of block that the upper [Door Down] sign is over and the lower [Door Up] sign is under, must be the same. It must also match the full width of the upper and lower borders of the door area -- put another way, the amount of matching material determines the door size. This block type will also determine the material that the door will be made of.
  • The "border" blocks will not be removed with the door.
  • The maximum door width is 15 blocks -- that is, a maximum of 7 blocks from the sign in either direction.
  • The maximum door height is 13 blocks -- or 15 if you count the top and bottom rows of blocks.
  • The Craftbook effect works by moving the blocks from between the upper and lower boundaries into a chest that must be placed near the sign being activated.
    • NOTE: This Chest must be placed within a 5-block radius sphere of the Sign that is being activated.

A Chest (or Trapped Chest) or Double Chest near the Sign is required to hold the blocks removed when the door is "opened".

Materials

The current server configuration should allow for any of:

  • stone
  • dirt
  • cobblestone
  • wood
  • glass
  • wool
  • double stone slabs
  • stone slabs
  • smooth stone
  • brick
  • bookshelves
  • snow blocks
  • clay blocks

Operation

Activating the door toggles its state so making an closed door while the redstone is off means that it will close when the redstone is powered.

Uses

Although intended for use as a door, other possibilities are:

  • Hide an entrance to your secret lair behind a row of Minecraft_Wiki_Icon.png bookshelves.
  • A toggle for flooding an area with either water or lava, useful for both PvE or PvP.
  • An enclosure for hostile mobs for release later in a PvP situation.
  • A basic logic test for newcomers to a server.
  • A door that one person must keep open by remaining on a pressure pad or pressing a stone button from a distance while another passes through.
  • Some other clever use that will blow all of our minds.

History

As of 2018 it was possible to use just [door] as the titles of the signs, but as of Jan 25, 2022 the sign titles require the words Up and Down in the titles. - getplayerhead.sh?bytebasher&16.png bytebasher.
