Old Kanal Town is a historic site and park located inside Kanal Town. It consists of builds from 2017-2018 and contains the first few buildings in the city. People still live in Old Kanal, so while it is a park try to be respectful of peoples space while exploring.
History
2017
SiOtter under the username GrumpyMosasaur (shortly after Dernal) came to the location of Kanal Town via a RTP in 2017. It was originally three builds: SiOtter's House, His shed, and a mine. SiOtter was mostly inactive in 2017 so the build was a bit neglected. In late 2017 SiOtter would build an aqueduct over the town, incorrectly called it a canal, misspelled it as 'kanal', and decided it should be named "Fort Kanal".
2018
PsychicWinter would stumble into Kanal Town by accident. This would lead to him building a house and living next to SiOtter. This lead to "Kanal Town" being established. A couple more players such as 
KomodoDragon108, 
SlicedTomato, 
MrCavern, and 
SleeplessTheCat would also join. These 5 core members made up Old Kanal. They would live in town full time creating a tightly knit community in a rather isolated part of the server.
The small town became the target of the raider 
Hatoshi on sept 17th 2018 who destroyed the old town farm before leaving. He came back the next day and wrecked a few houses before being banned by 
fmxstick. This ban saw an influx of visitors into town, so town was expanded east with the addition of a security office and permanent boat route. About 8 days later Old Kanal was partly abandoned to make way for New Kanal Town.
2019
Old Kanal Town was walled off by city staff to help preserve it, for a while it sat there dark and abandoned.
2020
Only one resident remained in Old Kanal, the other 2 town residents were living in New Kanal at the time. All the torches were removed from Old Kanal at this time by city staff to draw less attention to it, for it had become unmaintained and a bit of a slum. The map arts were stolen from the art gallery and the visitor centre was griefed a bit.
2021
Old Kanal Town's gate was removed, but the wall remained & it was considered to be separate from New Kanal Town.
2022
Old Kanal Towns torches were replaced lighting up the section of town again. Kanal Town staff offered to do tours of old kanal, building however was forbidden in the old section of town.
2023
Old Kanals wall was removed and select buildings in it began to be auctioned off by city officials under strict modification terms. Old Kanal Town was formally reincorporated into Kanal Town in May of 2023 with its own city district.
