The Portal Nexus aka. Project Anubis. A top secret project established in 6 April 2011. Contracted by the government, headed by getplayerhead.sh?Zymes&16.png Zymes and getplayerhead.sh?Kiatarie&16.png Kiatarie, the Freedonia Portal Co. a wholly owned subsidiary of Freedonia Railway Co. set out to build a global portal network across Freedonia.

Due to issues with long distance travelling using trains, alternative transportation research and government funding successfully invented the world-changing portals. After numerous years of testing in underground labs, the ability to bend time and space achieving speed travel from one point to another was successful. In order to profit from the invention the idea was sold to the government, which in turn will create a wider network of railway lines across the entire world.

Project Anubis is still a project undergoing development and testing, the final goal of which is to link all Freedonia with a portal network. Although referred to collectively as Project Anubis, this is actually composed of a variety of buildings of multiple classes, positioned throughout the map.

This is at present a classified project, and the locations of individual nodes are not currently disclosed.

Freedonia Portal Co. is not responsible for possible brain or retina damage using our portals.

Nexus nodes

Concept sketch of network layout
View inside a nexus branch room, showing the hubs 1 through 3. Hub one being the left most one.

There are nine main nodes, referred to as nexuses. A single central nexus is placed at the precise geometrical centre of Freedonia based on the the centre of a circle encompassing the complete distribution of player homes at the time of creation (the calculation of which position required a solution to the notorious least circle problem). Each of the other eight nexuses are located at a point precisely 2000m away, on cardinal compass directions - North, North-East, East, South-East, South, South-West, West, North-west.

Each nexus appears reminiscent of a key when seen from the air, symbolising how the Anubis Project will unlock Freedonia to the masses.

After finishing the Proto-Nexus (Nexus East) getplayerhead.sh?SlowRiot&16.png SlowRiot started to distribute copies of the Nexus over Freedonia on the 1st of May 2011. All 8 nexuses are complete.

Secondary hubs

Each nexus aside from Central is linked to three local hubs, each of which provides onward travel options to local destinations. Hubs are designed for ongoing expansion and addition of new portals. They are also designed to be connected to local railway systems for both departures and arrivals.

Exotic materials

The nexus nodes show a profusion of obsidian, gold and iron blocks, lava and lightstone - materials which are very rare in Freedonia. These reflect the state-funded nature of the project, which marks it out as an exception from ordinary survival-built player creations.

Destinations

Nexus and hub colour map.

Each nexus is colour coded with a primary minecraft colour for its compass direction, based on a colour wheel concept. The nexus buildings themselves are identical, differentiated only by their coloured stripe, which makes it possible to quickly identify your nexus location.

Each hub has two stripes - the first the colour of its local nexus, and the second its own compass direction colour relative to that nexus. As a result, it is possible for an individual familiar with the colour wheel layout to quickly identify any hub visually, either from inside or from a distance.

Central

A solidworks calculation of optimal hub locations, as well as the border and 1.0 expansion.
  • Currently undergoing development.
    • Completion: 90%

A city is planned for construction around Central Nexus. Once the portal system opens to the public, a high level of visitor traffic is expected in the local area, and infrastructure is currently being constructed to meet that demand.

Branch - North (Pink)

Although the closest feature is Casa de Austria located amidst a warmer and thawed climate, the local climate around this nexus is in fact quite frigid towards the North-West. Nestled on a developed flat beach area with a large lake, it offers a convenient location for exploration by foot! This nexus hub features a road link to the nearby Casa de Austria.

Branch - North-East (Red)

  • Stripe colour: Red
  • Completed, and awaiting links to hubs.
  • Linked to Central Nexus.
  • Closest feature: Spawn.

This nexus node served as the prototype for the outer nexus design, which is repeated in the other nexus nodes constructed, the only differences being individual signage and stripe colours. This high-traffic location is the nearest nexus to Spawn. This nexus is near a lot of remarkable landmarks such as Weeping Miner and NewSeattle. You also have a stunning view of the WoodenCastle and Yggdrasil. Following the road north will take you to the Clubhouse built by TBSliver himself!

This nexus location has plenty of large structures created by explorers dedicated to cultivate a land very far north. Many players have dedicated their time to create stunning features in the surrounding area. One of the players nearby this nexus has made stunning pixel art for all to enjoy. This nexus also has a path to the small town of Greenville and later to ForbiddenOutpost.
