Saikyo (西京) is a Japanese-themed City located in the western oceans of Freedonia and the center of the Daybreak Union.

Creation and History

The foundation of Saikyō was laid when getplayerhead.sh?Hirudo6&16.png Hirudo6 built the Saikyō port and Customs office on July 23rd, 2018. Over the next short period, Hishigata Park, the visitor center, public farm, and Ryokan were all built as well. As of 8/8/18 the enchanting station, watchtower, Shinto Shrine, Beacon, and Potion shop were added.

On August 11th, the town was conected to the Nexus system, prompting the addition of a landing pad and a new road. Nine days later, the rail station was completed, and has yet to be linked to any locations. By August 27th, the Maneki-Neko Statue and getplayerhead.sh?mk59apr&16.png mk59apr's Great Coxwell Barn replica were both completed. Expansion into the swamp biome for the European district was also begun.

On the 17th of September, massive updates to town infrastructure were both started and completed, including standardization of roads, new tunnels, plans for public facilities, and a general nicening of several construction areas. Several weeks later, the town center was completely cleansed to more effectively use the space. Casualties of this event included the original public farm, the cobble hut that housed the Saikyo Nether Portal, and Hishigata park. These buildings were replaced by the Saikyo Printing Office, the bookstore, and a commons area. The original structures were either relocated or planned to be.

The Landscapocalypse

To make way for the increasing urbanization of the town, mass clearing of trees to the west and terraforming of dirt to the east of the island on which Saikyo resides was begun. To date, all of the trees have been cleared, consuming 5 unenchanted diamond axes in the process. The large hill where most of the tree clearing took place became the site of the town hall, and all further-east space was dedicated to farms. On the eastern half, the Kyojuu district was formed into a series of tiers, creating the first area of residential plots.

On October 19th, getplayerhead.sh?DavidRodas01&16.png DavidRodas01 became the first official resident of the town. Later, getplayerhead.sh?Owlsflame&16.png Owlsflame built several new houses in the housing district, and both getplayerhead.sh?ItsADeathTrap&16.png ItsADeathTrap and getplayerhead.sh?ChocoboFan01&16.png ChocoboFan01 began construction on their houses as well.

The Connection

Early in November of 2018, Saikyo’s links to the greater Freedonian world were broadened, as it’s Nexus pads were refurbished and relocated. In using her admin powers to help achieve this, getplayerhead.sh?Anna_28&16.png Anna_28 left behind an extraneous Nexus return pad. It still functions, and will allow the user to return to the nexus. Several days later, Saikyo’s Nether Portal was rebuilt and relit. On the nether side, the portal gained a cavernous housing and series of archways, leading to a hub that links to several other locations, including the NHS, Aeston Isle, and Sleeptopia.

Saikyo was officially connected to the Mushiana Boat Route on December 1st.

The Nicening

As progress was being made on newer districts, attention was also focused on the already established areas of the town. A distinct effort to make the town prettier and presentable led to the repaving and relighting of every path, as well as many sakura trees and other items of decorative nature being added. Stations containing a crafting table, a furnace, and a unique fact about Saikyo were also placed around for visitor convenience. Additionally, due to their age, the Saikyo docks, the first of the structures built, were completely refurbished with spruce wood and enlarged.

By this point, several other users had claimed plots in the town, namely getplayerhead.sh?Nari1102&16.png Nari1102, getplayerhead.sh?Okibdoki&16.png Okibdoki, and getplayerhead.sh?monsoonman&16.png monsoonman.

On January 15th, 2019, the Saikyo Pigchinko Arena was completed.

Saikyo Residency Raffle

On January 15, 2019 Hirudo also announced the Saikyo Residency Raffle, a chance for MCO players to win prizes for building a house in the town. The contest was open to all, with a grand prize of 10 diamond blocks for the raffle, and additional prizes based on quality of the builds. Every user was additionally able to claim 3 diamonds for entering. This time also saw the addition of several new farms, the first in a long while. The contest was a success, surpassing the expected number of entrants. While not all builds were finished in time for the contest, all participants builds were and are welcome additions

Laws and General Regulations

  1. All connecting infrastructure (bridges, roads, etc) must be underground at least 300 blocks from any coast
  2. Features of the city such as roads, decorations, trees, and walls should all match the preexisting templates for such. (for example, Sakura and Dark Oak trees should be the primary varieties created)
  3. PvP is disallowed without prior provocation.
  4. Chests and their items are the responsibility of their owners; as such, open chests are free use
  5. All builds on the island are allowed to have minor edits performed on them by the town staff

Town Staff

Staff have permission to add new builds and infrastructure to the town, as well as edit buildings that do not meet the requirements. These are who to ask about contributing to the town or building a house.

Building Regulations

  • Buildings in the Chuukan, Seifu, or Gyoukai should all be generally Eastern in style, with certain permitted exceptions. Likewise, all buildings in the Oushuu district must be European or medieval in theme. Buildings in the Kyojuu (residential) district should match an Eastern theme, but buildings built prior to this enforcement will not be modified in that regard.
    • Some definitions on what an “Eastern theme” means:
    • Low-sloped or flat roofs, optionally with flared corners, which can be tricky to build.
    • Tiers: NOT a requirement, but should follow a pattern of being identical to the base level or smaller. This typically emulates a castle or pagoda, and should be avoided in great numbers for smaller buildings.
    • Columns: used on the corners of the walls as accents (ideally made of logs) and used on the corners of roofs to provide support (usually made of fences and cobble walls); both of these help enforce the Eastern style
    • Other tips: Fences make excellent windows and can be substituted in place of glass panes. Trapdoors make excellent highlights as well when used correctly. Many buildings already around town provide examples of most, if not all of these techniques, so have a look around if inspiration is needed.
  • Oak wood is strictly banned as a primary building material, with certain permitted exceptions. All other wood types are allowed, though Spruce is preferred.
  • Stone and other gray blocks are encouraged to cohere with the rest of the town, but may not be the sole material used.
  • No “cube” buildings, meaning buildings must have some depth or an interesting design. This regulation includes mono-block buildings.
  • Tall buildings (30+ blocks) must be approved before construction and must be separated from other similarly sized buildings.
