Cartwheel Tower is the superstructure to UnderWorld. It is really eight peripheral towers surrounding a main central tower, connected by a ring, in a cartwheel shape. Each tower has a shaft leading down to the centre of a dome in Underworld, providing illumination. The central shaft ends in the underworld's drop pool.

The central tower reaches to the sky limit, and provides an overview of the surrounding forest and roads. The remaining tower tops are level with the elevated roads leading out of the central tower, and serve as crossroads between those and the ring road connecting them.

History

The tower was built by getplayerhead.sh?SlowRiot&16.png SlowRiot as a prelude to the foundation and excavation of Underworld.

It is part of a series of towers by SlowRiot, each located in one of the newly founded cities at the time. Other members of the series are:

The above towers, with the exception of Central Tower, all have one thing in common - they scale all the way to the top of the height limit, and they also have a hollow excavation at their base extending all the way to bedrock. This was inspired by the contemporary trend of handing out fixed square plots of land in cities, which were often quite small in footprint, but which mandated neither a height limit nor an excavation depth limit - therefore, these towers were a way of optimising space usage within the confines of an allocated plot.

Cartwheel Tower takes this concept to the extreme, by having a cluster of towers, and a hollowed out dome at the bottom of each.

The individual shafts were used to provide light and access to the individual domes. Since then the peripheral shafts have been sealed and are for light use only, as they no longer have a safe drop.
