The Menger Sponge near spawn is only 81*81*81, and a 243*243*243 sponge will fit under the new height limit, so I had the foolishness to try to build a bigger one near the edge of the Beta Chunks. I've started digging a hole for the new sponge. While the sponge will require 3200000 blocks, assuming there are 64 blocks above bedrock, I will get around 4194304 blocks from the digging itself, well over what I need. What shall I do with these extra blocks? Well, if you're foolish like me, you build a bunch of smaller sponges!
