Title: *I hate thinking of titles damn you! ….ugh ok fine put “Lucky Beginnings” or something like that. Sheesh*
Bear with me…..in the next few minutes I will try to revisit and illustrate for you my first moments on M(y)inecraftonline and the steps I took to get there. It will only take a few minutes of your time…maybe less, maybe more depending on what level of grade school you have passed (you know who you are =.=).
When I first saw videos of minecraft on youtube my first reaction was something along the lines of…..”holy shit…..the graphics suck!” I am not proud of this comment. It displays my ignorance and complacency with games that focused more on the graphics and what type of weapons you can use thatn actual quality of gameplay. I was accustomed to shooters, or mmorpgs. I had never seen anything like minecraft before, simply because there has never been anything like minecraft before. Thankfully my prejudice didn’t overcome me and I soon found myself buying the game and playing sp all the time (to the annoyance of my family).
I loved the game! My misconception of the graphics turned out to be false. Although they werent technologically impressive, they were still amazing, and beautiful in their simplicity. The gameplay was fantastic as well. Minecraft is a game that is limited only by the players imagination.
Although I was in lust with the game I soon found myself feeling lonely (). I am a social person….some say too social >.>…and it was hard to play a game that none of my friends had ever even heard of at that point. Recall when you found your first mob spawner, or your first daimond, and then imagine you had no one to talk to that would understand your excitement. Although it is “just a game” the achievement and pride you feel is all to real.
Soooo….I went looking for a mp server. My one and only google search for mp servers brought me to a very long and complicated looking list of servers. Many claimed to be friendly to new players but I was not ignorant to what mp servers can be like (shudder). I maybe spent 5 minutes altogether on the website before I finally clicked on a server called Minecraftonline.com. Nothing special, nothing fancy/flashy/terrifying in the name. Just Minecraftonline.
I suppose it was partly the simplicity of the name that got to me. I wasn’t looking for a server where I would have to defend myself and my house from invaders at all times. I also wasn’t looking for a server that was completely focused on building and Minecraftonline.com fit the bill.
My first time logging into the server, my heart must have been beating 100 times a minute. It may sound wimpy (:P) but I was rather new to this whole mp server thing. At the time I first logged into the server, Notch had just updated the game, and the temporary server was up and running.
Just my luck, in the first three seconds of my adventures on Minecraftonline…..i fell into a hole. A big hole. A f*****g huge hole! (To all of you who were on the server at this time you know what im talking about)……..aaaand I got stuck.
Completely stuck. As in I couldn’t walk more than five steps before I hit a wall or a ledge that led down into what appeared to be a firey hell full of monsters and lava. Not a good beginning to be sure. I was sure that I would be stuck down there until I died, or gave up, but after some pitiful pleas over chat, I was soon rescued and led off into the sunset…..or as far near the sunset as I could get since I didn’t know about boats. :l
(On a little side note, this story is going a LOT longer then I thought it would….what can I say I like to ramble ….so if you are bored please feel free to abandon ship….if you are a moderator having to judge this story……suffer on! :P)

My first time entering the real Freedonia server:
I was in awe. That’s the easiest way to explain it. Im pretty sure I was mumbling incoherently over and over since my parents asked me if I was ok after I calmed down, but I don’t really remember because everything is a blur of flashing lights, huge buildings, and strange creatures walking around. Like a mormon in Las Vegas I had entered a strange new world and I was not sure if I was going to thrive or be eaten alive. (lol that rhymes….yea). But I digress...
My first day on the real server I spent exploring, oggling other people, buildings and such. At this time I had no idea who Flippeh was so I incorrectly assumed that the large statue was and homage to Notch. Please forgive my former ignorance .
At this point I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to build, I just knew that I wanted it to be BIG. After wandering around, paddling in my new boat (secondhand) I found a large lake. After some drama and other things occurred, I decided then and there to build my house on the lake. I didn’t know how I was going to begin. I just knew I needed to get started. Coal had to be found, trees massacred, dirt dug (dugged?, duggin?) and all of the little things necessary to begin making my….house….well honestly it was just a platform up in the air at this point….. but a few torches make all the difference to someone who was still afraid of the “night.”
Thus began my first foray into the epic world that is Minecraftonline.com. First playing minecraft, then finding a server, then joining Freedonia were probably some of the best things I’ve ever done on a whim. While it may seem very cliché, being a proud member of Freedonia has changed my life for the better. New friends, new places, new creations and new beginnings.
