What is Boat Curling?
Boat Curling is a MinecraftOnline sport brought to the server by
_Daata. The activity is played in a 'boat curling arena' on a sheet of ice and packed ice. Two players take turns hooking boats with fishing rods, pulling them down the ice towards the targets! Join the Boat Curling MCO Discord for more details and to organize play! https://discord.gg/URqnHCHWpW
Basic Rules and How to Play
- Each player gets only 9 boats for the game! ( Do not pick up any boats from the ice!! )
- Place the boat on the single block of ice opposite the target, with the boat facing down the ice.
- Stand on the glass and hook your boat with a fishing rod to pull the boat down the ice towards the target.
- The objective is to get as close to the center of the target as possible.
- If your boat does not make it past the center line, it is out of play and must be removed.
- If your boat overshoots the target and is fully across the back line, it must be removed.
- Depending on the boat curling venue, if your boat falls off the ice or touches a wall in any way, it must be removed. (Check local rules!)
- The boat closest to the center of the target after each player throws 9 boats wins the game!
Full / Advanced Rules (Reference during Tournaments)
Before Playing
- Check the ice surface for boats, items, mobs, and players. Ensure the sheet is COMPLETELY clear. This includes gutters around the ice!
- Participating players SHOULD (and in tournaments) MUST clear their inventory into a secure chest, with the exception of a sword for defense and clearing boats.
- Each player should pick up 9 boats of a contrasting color. One player should use light boats (oak, birch, jungle, acacia), the other dark boats (spruce, darkoak). Most important is that the boat colors are consistent and agreed upon between players. A fishing rod, enchanted or non-enchanted, should be used to pull the boats.
- Players must agree upon who will go first. If the players cannot decide, a randomizer should be used (a dropper with items will suffice) to determine who goes first. Randomizer is required in tournaments!
- Spectators must remain on the glass or in viewing areas. In tournaments, only the players are allowed on the glass and ice.
During Play
Pulling of the Starting Block
- Your boat must be facing directly down the ice, parallel with the ice sheet. See image for details.
- A very slight deviation to the left or right can be used, but not for guard shots.
- If a player loses the hook on their boat, they may rehook the boat, only if the boat is still in contact with the starting block.
Center Line
- The boat must cross beyond the normal ice of the center line and be in contact with the packed ice beyond it to remain in play. See image for details.
- If the boat does not remain in play, it must be removed from play by the player who threw it.
Back Line
- If a boat crosses entirely over the back line and is not touching any of the normal ice of the back line, it must be removed from play by the player who threw it.
Gutters and Walls
- If a boat falls into the gutter, it may be removed by the player who threw it or left if it is not interfering.
- If a boat hits a wall, it may be removed or remain in play. Check local rules.
Measuring
- Both players must decide that the same boat is closest to the center of the target. There is no precise measuring system. If present, or during a tournament, a third party must be used to break the tie and make a decision.
After Playing
- After playing, please clear all boats and items from the ice and return them to a chest. In addition, leaving a fishing rod using /kit fish is a kind gesture for the next person!
Places to Play
There are several public boat curling centers across Freedonia!
