History
Founding
The City Of Darkness was founded by
LordFollower in Late 2023, With
SholQut being one of the earliest members and builders of the settlement. the city was created after
LordFollower abandoned an Overworld project and decided instead to establish a major settlement in the End, with the ambitious goal of eventually creating the largest city in the dimension's history
The name “City of Darkness” predates the settlement itself. It was originally the name of a clan owned by
LordFollowerduring his time playing ‘‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’’ on PC. The name is also a reference to the underground song “City of Darkness” by Havana Brown.
Unlike settlements built upon naturally generated terrain, much of the earliest City of Darkness had to be constructed directly over the End void.
LordFollower and SholQut manually placed the original floors and platforms upon which the settlement would grow.
The first recognizable part of the city was a small grass area decorated with several lamps. This was followed by a small storage building. The original grass area still survives, while the storage has since been expanded and substantially modernized.
Early Development
One of
LordFollower first major artistic projects was the Hanging Paths, a large structure extending high above the city’s lower levels. The project was inspired by a stage from ‘‘SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos’’ and was created primarily as a piece of large-scale environmental art.
Throughout 2024, development remained relatively slow. A small number of players occasionally contributed to the settlement, but the city had yet to attract a large permanent building community. Construction was further complicated by limited resources and several bans received by
LordFollower during the city’s early history.
Despite the slow development,
LordFollower continued working toward the original goal of turning City of Darkness into a major End settlement.
2025 Construction Boom
The city’s development changed considerably in 2025 following the arrival of
pyon111.
pyon111 originally approached the city seeking permission to construct a machine nearby. After discussions with
LordFollower, he instead decided to join City of Darkness.
The arrival of
pyon111 began one of the most active periods of construction in the city’s history.
LordFollower and
pyon111 began undertaking increasingly large projects together, with
orchunter88,
HeyHasio,
jgo,
1Q12 and other players subsequently making significant contributions.
One of the defining projects of this period was the complete reconstruction of the City of Darkness Hub. The original hub had been a comparatively small and simple glass dome surrounded by iron-bar walls.
LordFollower eventually became dissatisfied with the design and, together with
pyon111 , orchunter88 and
HeyHasio, replaced it with a substantially more elaborate structure.
The new hub uses Islamic architectural influences and features iron-block flooring and prominent interior domes. Remarkably, the primary structure was constructed by the four players in approximately a single day.
By this period, the city had expanded into an area approximately 2,000 by 2,500 blocks, containing projects ranging widely in architectural style and scale.
Government and Ownership
City of Darkness maintains an intentionally loose system of governance. The settlement has very few formal rules, with its primary prohibitions being griefing and killing fellow city members.
On 27 December 2025,
LordFollower transferred formal ownership of City of Darkness to
pyon111. The decision was influenced by
LordFollower repeated bans and his concern that the city’s long-term future could become uncertain if he were permanently unable to return.
pyon111 was selected because
LordFollower considered him one of the players he trusted most on MinecraftOnline, alongside
1Q12.
Despite the formal transfer,
LordFollower remains the city’s founder and retains absolute authority over its development, while
pyon111 holds formal ownership of the settlement and its territory.
The city notably maintains no embassies. Despite speculation that this may represent some unusual diplomatic doctrine, the actual explanation is considerably simpler:
LordFollower did not want to spend the effort developing an embassy system.
Architecture and building Philosophy
City of Darkness has no mandatory architectural theme. Members are permitted to construct in virtually any style provided that the resulting structure is considered visually acceptable and does not interfere with major city projects.
As a result, the city contains buildings and artwork inspired by radically different sources, including Islamic architecture, futuristic design, video games, fantasy media and experimental structures.
This lack of consistency is intentional and has become one of the settlement’s defining characteristics.
LordFollower has described City of Darkness as essentially “a huge fever dream that looks good.”
Major projects
Hanging Paths:
The Hanging Paths are among the earliest major artistic structures constructed in City of Darkness. Created primarily by
LordFollower, the paths extend to considerable heights above the city and were designed as a large-scale art project rather than a purely functional piece of infrastructure.
Their design was inspired by a stage from the fighting game ‘‘SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos’’.
City Of Darkness Hub:
The current City of Darkness Hub replaced the settlement’s original glass-dome hub during the city’s major 2025 expansion.
Designed and constructed by
LordFollower,
pyon111, orchunter88 and HeyHasio, the structure incorporates Islamic architectural influences, iron-block floors and elaborate interior domes. The main build was completed in approximately one day.
City Office:
The City Office is a large futuristic office complex constructed primarily from wood. Its upper floors contain custom spaces intended for high-ranking city members, including
LordFollower and pyon111.
The office occupies an area previously intended for a sizeable miniature town project. The earlier project was eventually demolished after
LordFollower concluded that completing it would require excessive work, and the site was subsequently redeveloped by
LordFollower and
pyon111 into the City Office.
The Ring:
The Ring is one of the most technically difficult projects undertaken in City of Darkness. Inspired by the One Ring from ‘‘The Lord of the Rings’’, the enormous structure is suspended high above the city and contains approximately 120,000 blocks.
LordFollower discovered the design while browsing an old website and decided to recreate it above City of Darkness. The structure includes the inscription depicted on the Ring in the films.
Its extreme height, scale and lettering made construction particularly difficult. Approximately 30% of the project was completed by
LordFollower and LeoBC1, while the majority of the remaining construction was carried out by HeyHasio. Completion required several months.
Museum:
The City of Darkness Museum is the largest project in the settlement by physical scale. At its current stage it contains approximately 200,000 blocks, with the completed structure expected to approach 400,000 blocks.
The museum is intended to preserve various collections and historical items, including
LordFollower collection of player heads.
Its enormous scale is also deliberately symbolic: the building was designed partly as a demonstration of the city’s resources, construction capability and presence within the End.
King Fahd Garden:
King Fahd Garden is an unfinished project created by
LordFollower. It was conceived as one of the city’s more unusual landscaping projects and was named after King Fahd of Saudi Arabia.
King Khalid Mosque:
King Khalid Mosque was constructed primarily by
LordFollower with assistance from several other players. The mosque was named after King Khalid of Saudi Arabia and reflects
LordFollower Saudi background and his desire to reference previous Saudi kings through projects within the city.
LordFollower considers the mosque his proudest project, and it is intended to be the largest mosque constructed in MinecraftOnline history.
Contributors
While numerous players have contributed to City of Darkness throughout its history, several have played particularly significant roles.
pyon111 became one of the city’s most important builders during the 2025 expansion and currently holds formal ownership of the settlement.
orchunter88 contributed to numerous construction projects and donated large quantities of black ink required by the city.
HeyHasio similarly contributed substantial resources and construction work, most notably completing the majority of The Ring.
jgo designed numerous towers within the city’s plot system, while
1Q12 contributed significant quantities of resources and constructed a small storage facility used during construction of The Ring.
FreezeItMC Who had made major farms and made the first road to the city with it being an ice road
Other important contributors include SholQut, one of the city’s original builders; LeoBC1, who assisted with The Ring; and the many players who provided smaller contributions throughout the settlement’s development.
Diplomacy
City of Darkness is allied with the Black Starwalkers (BSW). The relationship began after
LordFollower showed the city to the leader of BSW, who subsequently proposed an alliance.
LordFollower has since assisted BSW with several activities, although details of some of this cooperation have intentionally remained private.
Underground Areas
Beneath the city’s main ground level exists an extensive and considerably less visible network of passages.
These underground routes contain numerous paths, rooms, hidden spaces and secrets. Consequently, a visitor travelling only through the visible city can pass over substantial portions of City of Darkness without realizing that additional structures exist directly beneath them.
Incidents and Stories
Moxie Horse:
During the city’s early history,
LordFollower asked Moxie to provide him with a horse in the End. Moxie granted the unusual request.
The horse apparently came with an unofficial price: for a period afterward, whenever Moxie encountered
LordFollower, she would repeatedly strike him with lightning.
Somxton Incident:
City of Darkness has experienced relatively little serious griefing. One notable incident involved Somxton, who placed a large number of signs throughout the settlement.
The signs greatly irritated
LordFollower, who retaliated by repeatedly hunting Somxton across the Overworld and killing him on multiple occasions.
Zomon Incident:
Another unusual event occurred when administrator Zomon spawned a collection of strange mobs around
LordFollower. The encounter eventually concluded with Zomon killing
LordFollower using an extremely powerful “1k sword.”
