Dé à coudre (thimble in English) is a dropper minigame invented by two french players in the early days of French Multiplayer servers and was named and popularized in France by a french Youtuber, Bob Lennon.

The goal of the game is to jump in a pool of water, and place a block of wool where you landed in the pool. If a player falls on a block, they are usually eliminated. Each player has wool color, to see which player placed which block in the pool.

The number of players depends on the size of the pool, but at least 2 players are needed to play.

Goal of the game

One at a time, the players need to jump in the water. Each jump, the player place a block under their feet in order to "fill" the water block in which they fell. As the game continue, the number of water blocks is smaller and smaller, meaning the player needs to be more and more precise to not fall on the placed blocks.

Bonus of «Dé à coudre»

Moreover, if a player achieve to fall in a 1x1 hole between blocks placed by players, we say they have done a «Dé à coudre». The tradition says that this player has the right to place a second block, where they wants, in addition of the one where they fell. Other versions add a second life to the player, allowing them to fail once.

General Rules

These are the base rules used on MCO version of the game.

  • Play in survival with empty inventory, except for the wool (dressing rooms are available in each arena to store your inventory during the game -- you lock yourself the chests)
  • Place only one block per turn (except for the Dé à coudre’s bonus)
  • No PvP allowed in the arena

IF SOME WOOL HAS BEEN LEND BY THE ARENA, RETURN THE WOOL !!!

MCO Specific rules

When imported on MCO, the choice has been made to add some specific rules exclusive to MCO. When building an arena of DaC, you are not forced to use these rules, but you must keep the base rules (if not, then it’s not a DaC anymore...). These specific rules are based on the first DaC arena of the server, the CFTN Tower.

  • Each player must remember the number on their chest in the dressing room. Previous runs showed that it may be difficult for the host of the game to remember the (sometimes) difficult player names. These numbers will correspond to their place in the order of passage.
  • The MCO arena should have more than one jumping platform.
    • The platforms are separated by at least 5 blocks high.
    • Each 3 full rounds (so when all participant have jumped three times in the pool), the participants go one platform higher.
    • The last platform (the highest one) should be a blind platform. That means that instead of being pierced like the previous platform and being always open, there is a Craftbook BRIDGE that close the jumping space. The player go on the closed hole, choose where they start, and the host open the bridge when they are ready

Arena

Classic design rules (mandatory)

The arena is composed with a pool, a jumping spot, a scoreboard, a rules board and a dressing room. The size of the pool is variable but, as written on the french Minecraft wiki, a good size for a pool should follow this function:

Number of players * n = Number of water blocks, where n represent the maximum round number and can differ in function of time of game. n = 5 mean that if all players successfully complete their jumps, they will all die in the 6th round because there will be no more water available.

It is recommended to use a simple shape for the pool, with a one block border where the infinite water sources are. The most basic one is the square, easier for the calculations, but you can also use a circle, or any easy shape. Just remember that the harder the shape of the pool is, the harder it will be to prevent it to lost its infinite water sources

The dressing room should contain some chests lockable by the player themselve, and theses chests must have a number on them, representing the position of the player in the jumping order.

MCO specific design rules (optionnal)

The players should be able to jump from several platform, instead of just one in the classic version. The arenas, in MCO version, should have at least 3 jumping platform, one above the other. For now, the base number for the amount of blocks between to platforms is 5. The last platform, the higher, is a blind platform. It means that it’s a platform like the other, but the hole is closed by default with a simple Craftbook BRIDGE. All platforms should be reachable with Lift Signs. Using ladders is allowed, but for the long run, it’s a bit slow.

Existing arenas

For now, only one arena is built on the server, the C.F.T.N Tower in Phoenix Isles, at the coordinates -5580 66 -11610 (Phoenix Isles' nexus)
