The two founders of Casa de Austria, Tank_AUT and xxVegasxx, made a plan to reproduce St Peter's Basilica of Rome as a to scale model. After calculating the height of the scaled down model they realized they needed to dig a rather large hole down to bedrock for it to fit the MC height limit. This hole was known as the Great Stripmine at this time.

The hole reached the needed depth and size by early 2011 and the project stalled there as the two founders left the server.

SlowRiot is known to have caused a problem on at least one occasion.

On April 3, 2014, the St Peter's Basilica project and the required territory was given over to getplayerhead.sh?Zomon333&16.png Zomon333 by getplayerhead.sh?SlowRiot&16.png SlowRiot. The name of the pit was then changed to Zomon's Pit of Doom. Zomon333's current plans for this build are to build an 16 bit redstone computer in it, and see if he can get it to run Doom. Hence, the pit's name.
