I think the ship is actually a carrack (a more developed version of a caravel). Also, while the cross is also a templar cross, in the case of being on the sail of a caravel or carrack, it would most likely allude to the Order of the Order of Christ cross that Portuguese explorer ships used to display. Maybe we should call it a 16th century explorer ship?
