The Society of Masked Fishermen is a peaceful, esoteric order of wanderers and ascetics of Freedonia, founded on July 21, 2026 by the player UncleChugun. The Society is defined by a strict philosophical vow of absolute non-interference with the physical world, dedicating itself instead to contemplation, public charity, and the meditative art of fishing at Spawn.

Philosophy and the Sacred Vow

At the core of the Society's belief is a complete refusal to alter the server map. The Order views Freedonia's 16-year-old map as a sacred, living museum that is only to be contemplated.

The Society's Sacred Vow is based on the following strict rules:

  • Never place a single block.
  • Never break a single block.
  • Never harm any living creature.
  • Always donate items to the public chest at spawn.

Pilgrimage Sites

The Order has no official main temple or headquarters where they might potentially gather, but any religious structure dedicated to maritime themes is suitable for member pilgrimages, in particular:

Tales

During one of the first pilgrimages, even before the founding of the order, UncleChugun entered the "Forbidden Tunnel" in the ancient Temple of the Supreme Fishness. The floor vanished, and the wrath of the Fish Gods manifested as pure lava. Bound by his vow, the founder refused to save himself by placing blocks to avoid burning. Instead, he embraced the magic of the Great Spawn, teleported away, and rose from the ashes completely unharmed. This event is regarded as a divine blessing, proving that the Gods protect those who respect the integrity of Freedonia's builds.

Sacred Artifacts and Charity

The Society operates a non-profit "economy of kindness," centered around the public chests at Spawn. The Order regularly fills these chests with the following custom-named artifacts:

  • "UncleChugun's fishing rod": Renamed on anvils, these tools are gifted to all players to guide them toward a peaceful playstyle.
  • "UncleChugun's mob defender": Renamed bows to protect players from hostile mobs.
  • "A fish from UncleChugun for you!": Renamed catches to help newcomers avoid hunger in their early days.
  • "A gift from UncleChugun for you!": Renamed enchanted books containing powerful enchantments.
  • "A saddle from UncleChugun for you!": Renamed saddles intended for the players' future mounts.
