Update Doomerism

"Update Doomerism" is a term coined by getplayerhead.sh?ScarClaw72&16.png ScarClaw72 to describe the behavior of certain players who are convinced that MinecraftOnline will never update to newer versions.

1.7.10

As the server grew old and the number of active admins and developers dropped dramatically, many players were utterly convinced in the mid to late 2010s the server would never update past 1.7.10. It was considering unfathomably archaic as the years went on, and Freedonia saw almost no future of updating unless they could get off of Canary. Canary was dead as dead software can be and it meant the task of moving forward would require an entire re-write of much of the server's code, which later would happen in the migration to Sponge. When it came to a finish, the server had spent 7 years on the version of Minecraft.

1.12.2

While nowhere near as common as the 1.7.10 era, the 4+ years since the 1.12.2 update has left some questioning if the server will manage to update again as promised. For a while, it was a matter of waiting for Sponge API to update to a newer stable version of Minecraft. This eventually came, and the server's targeted update changed from 1.16, to 1.19, and now 1.20. In reality, it's more or a question of when instead of if at this point. As of 2025, Freedonia has many active developers who are continuously working toward the targeted 1.21.x update.
