Blue Hill is a small town in a hilly taiga biome filled with small, cozy buildings. Many of these buildings are residential and unoccupied; contact Butternutbamboo if you want to move in!
History
The Town of Blue Hill is a small settlement in the snowy hills to the east of Untertal. The Town's mayor, Butternutbamboo, originally settled Blue Hill in 2020 after a long expedition to what was, at the time, the world border. Two years later, other buildings began to be built among the spruce trees, starting with the Blue Hill Observatory, built on top of the large hill that the town was named after.
Neighborhoods and Notable Structures
Town Map
Hilltop
Hilltop is the site of Blue Hill's first buildings and the highest point in the Town and surrounding area. Many of the structures in this neighborhood are named after Blue Hill, rather than Hilltop, because they were built before the other neighborhoods developed.
Major structures:
- Mayor's House: The residence of Butternutbamboo, the first building to be built in Blue Hill, was originally constructed on September 20, 2020.
- Blue Hill Observatory: The first building other than the mayor's house that was built in the Town. Once the observatory was built, construction began on the rest of the Town.
- The observatory's telescope points eastward and contains books documenting the night sky and other observations, such as of the surrounding landscape.
- The observatory was originally constructed on February 19, 2022.
- Glass Dome Memorial: A memorial for one of Butternutbamboo's friends who had died. The memorial consists of a small glass dome over a bed of poppies and dandelions. In the center is a stone monument with a short dedication.
- Town Hall: Situated in the center of the town, downhill from the observatory. Important town meetings are held in the northern room.
- The coordinates on this page reflect the location of the town hall's foyer, which contains a few signs displaying a short history of the Town.
- There is a mailbox outside the front door for correspondence and other items to be left in.
- Greenhouse and Herbarium: Across from the town hall, where plants from around the world are cultivated for study.
- The collection is currently incomplete and lacking many flowers. Please contact Butternutbamboo if you have any rare flowers!
Riverside West
Major structures:
- Riverside Wheat Farm: This small wheat farm produces artisan grains that are either exported or used to make bread in the nearby bakery.
- A small grain silo was built next to the farm to help store and protect wheat.
- Blue Hill Mine: A deep earth mine built originally for the extraction of rare ores. The ground floor contains only a furnace room; across from the furnaces is the mineshaft, where the cage descends to the bedrock level.
- At the bottom of the mine is the Town's Nether portal.
- Riverside Cemetery: A small cemetery with a small chapel near the entrance and a mausoleum near the back.
Riverside North
Major structures:
- Northern Bridge: A stone arch bridge connecting Blue Hill to the forest biome to the north.
- Riverside North Farms: A large, multi-purpose farm that primarily produces wheat and wood.
Warner
Major strucutres:
- Blue Hill Public Library, Main Branch: A large library which is home to Blue Hill's largest collection of books and the Town records.
- Blue Hill Post Office: A small post office conveniently situated near Blue Hill Harbor
Blue Hill Harbor
A small harbor with three wharves is situated on the south-eastern border of the Town. The harbor exists at the intersection of the Town's taiga biome and the nearby swamp and jungle biomes.
Transportation
Blue Hill Canal Tunnel
The harbor is connected to the ocean and the Mosaic Boat Route via the Blue Hill Canal Tunnel. The canal tunnel is located to the south, between the neighboring swamp and jungle biomes. Following the tunnel will lead you to the river near the Untertal cactus wall, which can be followed south-west to the ocean where the Mosaic Boat Route starts.
Town Projects
The following is an incomplete list of ongoing or planned town projects.
- Blue Hill expansion project: The Town is currently mostly concentrated around the Blue Hill. Plans are underway to settle the rest of the encompassing taiga biome with buildings, parks, and other structures.
- For a brief overview, see the #Town Map above.
- Stock the library!: Plans are underway to collect player-written books and transcribe existing literature; copies will then be made available in chests within the library.
- If you have books that you want to donate, please contact Butternutbamboo! Any contributions are greatly appreciated.
- Connections to other settlements: Blue Hill is currently fairly isolated, with no roads in or out connecting the Town to other settlements. Plans are being made to remedy this with foot paths, bridges, and railroads.
