Guillaume Tell International Airport (IATA code: GTA - ICAO code: LSGT), formerly and still unofficially known as UIoS Airport or United Industries of Switzerland International Airport, is a building category Infrastructure located on the western shore of United Industries of Switzerland and will be used as a backdrop to the future Nexus as soon as construction is complete. It serves mainly the city of UIoS but also Anna's Forest further north and Frostagon to the south.

Name

The airport's name refers to the legendary hero of Switzerland's founding myths, Guillaume Tell (German: Wilhelm Tell), who took up a challenge ordered by Hermann Gessler, then under the thumb of the Habsburgs, to shoot a crossbow bolt into an apple placed on the head of his son Walter.

In honor of this courageous act, a stylized crossbow in the shape of an airplane is used as the official logo of the airport. The two colors of the logo, yellow at the top and cyan at the bottom, are the same colors that are used for the interior decoration of the airport, such as the light blocks: glowstone and sea lantern.

History

As a big fan of aviation (especially getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n who had been skydiving among other things), building an airport has always been part of getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia and getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n's plans in Minecraft.

It was just missing the opportunity to make this geeky fantasy come true.

After a year of presence on the server, getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia started the enlargement of the border wall following the natural seaside of the "continent". This redrawing of the borders made it possible to enlarge the base enough to accommodate an airport.

At the same time, building ideas were flourishing on our private discord, leading getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n to make a model on February 28, 2021 to plan the location of the airport to the west and a possible nuclear power plant to the northeast.

First try runway

On March 1, 2021, getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia began the construction of the runway.

While surveying the field, the available space was not enough to satisfy his ambition. It was quickly decided to build on Brocean, a body of water separating United Industries of Switzerland from New Dublin.

The tarmac was built in stone (the game was in 1.7.10 at that time, so no concrete) in order to imitate the typical color and texture of an airport runway. This layer rested on a 7x7 block cobble beam structure, following the pattern applied to the base's anti-mob torching.

7x7 pattern

A levelling of the ground at y=65 was also undertaken at the base of Frostagon in order to arrange the blastpad and the displaced threshold at the same height as the track.

The ground markings are made of wool carpet: yellow for the taxiway and the parking, and white for the runway. The safezones are made of grass blocks and the tire traces are made of black wool carpet. The numbering of the runway is in accordance with the IATA standard: It corresponds to the azimuth towards which the runway looks but having removed the unit (right character).

Heading north, 360° = 36

Minecraft 1.12.2 and stand-by

In the summer of 2021, the transition of the server to version 1.12.2 is becoming more and more concrete, leading getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia to stop the construction in stone. The gaping hole in the parking lot revealing the cobble structure shows that the project was about to be completed.

It was always intended that the tarmac would be built in concrete and the use of stone was seen as a step towards its final version. Motivation being what it is, the construction of the airport lost its interest in getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia's eyes and the project was put on hold.

At this point in the story, the airport still has no formal name and the border wall separates the runway from the rest of the base.

The Terminal

6 months later, new ideas for construction have emerged and the motivation to build is also back.

The first thing that has been decided is to build the terminal much further inland, away from the border wall. This is in order to increase the space on the tarmac dedicated to parking, but also to start with a new building design.

Because according to the plan established in February 2021, the western border wall was initially to be maintained and the future airport terminal was to be harmoniously integrated into it by keeping the design and the blocks used (blocks based on stone brick and nether brick).

This is definitely abandoned.

Design

A very airy exterior design, with a lot of transparency and clearly evoking the profile of an airplane wing is adopted.

Interior design

The interior design and the layout of the airport facilities are inspired by Geneva-Cointrin International Airport in Switzerland. This is the airport that getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n and getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia use every time they fly. getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia, who lives in Geneva, went to the airport several times to observe the premises in order to better understand them.

Levels

Level 2

Business & Security check. Various shops (cafe, boutique) and the traditional security check with X-ray of hand luggage and body detection for passengers. After that, the passport and boarding pass control is also done.

Level 1

Check-in & Boarding gates (& business). Both are separate because the boarding gates are located in the international and secure area. Small shops are also present (like a starbucks that has already been built, just in front of the future boarding gate #4).

Level 0

Arrivals. Located on the same level as the runway, this is where arriving passengers exit the airport. Passport control and baggage pick-up are also done on this level.

Level -1

Automatic sorting of luggage from the check-in counters to the planes and from the planes to the passengers through a conveyor belt circuit.

Level -2

Future station connecting the airport to the existing "Ice fast-track" network built in depth like a subway.

Construction site

The airport is under construction. No inauguration date can be given.
