UPDATE

The building time has been extended through Sunday, May 20, and voting will take place all next week.

Travel

Players may access the contest area by using the Project Anubis warp pad upstairs in the Visitor Center at spawn.

Rube-Goldberg Machines

What is a Rube Goldberg Machine? Take a look at the Wikipedia entry.

The basic idea is an overly complicated machine that accomplishes some basic task. The actual task is less the point than the intricate process involved. Machinery for its own sake!

Rules

  • Machines must stay within the assigned area. but can be any height. (30 x 30 square area with a 23 block diameter platform as a base, with interior for storage/wiring)
  • Entrants can use any redstone mechanism or craftbook IC that is available to all players, ranges must not exceed their assigned area.
  • Platforms can be altered to suit.
  • All machines must be able to be operated by one button, lever or pressure plate, and must not be in continual operation.
  • All machines must be automatic, and not require multiple steps by the user or user set-up.
  • Occasional re-loading or re-stocking is ok, as is needing time for something to grow or spawn.
  • Machines should work as intended at least one out of three times (The Mousetrap Rule - for those that remember that board game).

Voting

Voting will consist of both a public vote and a panel of five judges.

The public voting will begin on May 17th, and will continue until noon on May 20th. Ten points will be awarded according to the vote percentage.

The judge panel will consist of five players (to be announced), each of which will have two points to assign as they see fit. Judges may split their points or award them to one project.

Winning

  • The Best of Show will be awarded to the project with the highest overall point count.
  • The Blue Ribbon will be awarded to the project with the highest judge point count that is not the Best of Show.
  • The People's Choice will be awarded to the project with the highest public vote percentage that is not a Best of Show or Blue Ribbon winner.
