IRL History

USS Missouri (BB-63), also known as "Mighty Mo," is an Iowa-Class Battleship commissioned by the United States Navy during World War II. It is the last battleship ever made by the United States Navy. It entered service in 1944, participating in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima, along with the shelling of the Japanese Home Islands. On September 2, 1945, World War II came to an end on Deck 1 of the ship. After this, she went to serve in the Korean War in the shelling of North Korean controlled territories. After the cease fire, she was placed in the reserve fleet in 1955. In 1986, under the Reagan Administration, she was placed back into service for a modern refitting with CIWS systems and much more modern firepower under the 600-ship Navy Program. In 1990, Iraq, led by Saddam Hussein at the time, invaded Kuwait, which prompted an invasion by the US Coalition in 1991 under Operation Desert Storm. She fired over 28 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles and over 759 rounds. In 1992, she was finally put into retirement where she rests as a museum ship in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, guarding over the wreck of the USS Arizona. In a count from the official website of the USS Missouri, it is said to have fired over 7515 rounds since her first deployment in the Korean War, all the way to her final deployment in the Persian Gulf, from her 3, 16" guns.
