The idea and the process

One day, getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n had the idea to make a map art of the galaxy Andromeda. He knew it would be long and boring work, but it would be worth it in the end. The mapart is based on a photo made by (probably) the Hubble telescope. The image was processed to the right resolution and pixels were translated into minecraft blocks with the help of a website. The resulting .nbt file was then converted to .schematic, and was loaded in game using the schematica mod, allowing getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n to see where to place each block. The printer mode was obviously not used, as it is against the rules and a bannable offense on MCO.

getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n then started looking for a place on the map with enough space to hold a 5x3 mapart (384x640 blocks), but he found no such place. He ended up asking getplayerhead.sh?Scampi_&16.png Scampi_ if he could use space on The Canvas, and getplayerhead.sh?Scampi_&16.png Scampi_ agreed.

After that, getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n started collecting all the materials needed, and spent a few hours dyeing and sorting through thousands of blocks to make a list of what was stil needed.

getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n spent the first day, May 30th 2021, building a platform made mostly of dark oak planks, so he could then use carpet instead of wool to gain a third of the amount in wool blocks (2 wools = 3 carpets). The platform, being the size of the mapart itself, is made of around 245000 dark oak planks, taken in the public dark oak farm at the Iron Reef. It was placed using the craftbook bridge sign, an idea suggested by getplayerhead.sh?Darkerfly&16.png Darkerfly. The next 11 consecutive days, until June 10th 2021, getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n spend 4-12 hours each day placing blocks.

Almost each and every block on the mapart was placed by getplayerhead.sh?swissm4n&16.png swissm4n. Player getplayerhead.sh?Y_Bonn&16.png Y_Bonn was paid a few diamonds to place around 15 stacks of black carpet.

A few times, his base mate getplayerhead.sh?TheHellVetia&16.png TheHellVetia visited him on site and protected him from the countless mob attacks. getplayerhead.sh?AllusiveVirus&16.png AllusiveVirus helped in the same way once.
