The Crescent Hearth is an old tavern located in Aurora. Focused on the authenticity of it's early ages, they offer a variety of unique services and meals for consumption. The Crescent Hearth is one of the oldest wooden structures in the village and served as the town hall until the Aurora Chronorium was constructed.
History
The Crescent Hearth earned it's name from the fireplace found within it's spruce wood walls. When the first refugees from the fall of the City of MOON arrived, they constructed their camp in this exact spot. The crumbling coals beneath the warm camp fires of old now rest beneath the stone carapace. When the building was first constructed, it was named after the safety and hope the kindling had brought to the founders. The Crescent Hearth served as the village hall and gathering place until the Aurora Chronorium was constructed in the late early periods. The rooms now for rent once housed the first residents while the town went through it's early construction.
In the late periods, Aurora began seeing visitors from neighboring Settlements. Some of the visitors sought spiritual guidance or wished to learn more about the teachings of Lunationism. There was a feud among the priests as to the right of any non-native to have such answers and what it might mean for a future with neighboring civilizations. Ultimately, a compromise was struck where limited services would be provided at a location away from the sacred temples of Aurora. While a Tavern seemed odd a place for such services to many outsiders, the building once served a deeper purpose to the people and the recreational use of intoxicants was never looked down upon as heavily in Aurora.
In the modern day, the Crescent Hearth has become a central town fixture where many travels and pilgrims stop to rest, eat, and enjoy the warm kindling of embers ablaze.
Services
Menu Offerings
Although lacking many contemporary favorites, the Crescent Hearth includes a variety of food and drink from different periods of it's history.
Foodstuffs
- Porridge - A soft breakfast made with the oats of the local farm.
- Johnnycakes - A pancake-like dish that became a staple during the middle periods of Auroran history.
- Game Mix - A mix of different local meats, the "game" of Starlight Valley in it's purest form. Some late age Lunations believe consuming the local wildlife can improve spiritual services, leading to this meal often being paired with the other Tavern offerings.
- Provision - A basic offering of bread, cheese, and serving of available meat. It's nothing fancy, but it's the oldest meal offered and will stop you from going hungry at an affordable price.
- Pottage - A stew combining meats, vegetables, and locally grown spices. It comes served with a tough biscuit.
- Pasty - A middle period favorite that stuffs a soft baked crust with meat, potatoes, and more. It's the most portable offering on the menu.
Intoxicants
- Cider - Comes in both alcohol and non-alcoholic versions. It's crafted from apples traded by partners in other locales of Veserva.
- W.W. Wine - A moderate variety of favorite drinks offered by the partnered Western Waters Shipping Co.
- Ale - The old fashion favorite from the early periods of Aurora history. It uses a unique blend of local ingredients that give it an extra earthy taste.
- Beer - A staple of any Tavern in Freedonia. It's popularity has led to reliance on imported resources that Aurora could not produce on it's own.
- Mead - A fruity option that blends apples of Veserva, the berries of Western Waters Winery, and a select local goods.
Standard Services
Like many older (and often larger) Taverns, the Crescent Hearth also operates as an Inn.
- Rooms - Varying sizes but all the same price. Multi-bed rooms are reserved for parties of appropriate size.
- Baths - A special bath service is offered for those wishing a more private or quality option compared to the Aurora Hot Springs.
Spiritual Services
While the most devout prefer to spend time at the the local temples, a pair of priests work on-request at the Crescent Hearth offering services to visitors.
- Smudging - A ritual that involves burning herbs and reciting prayers to help cleanse the body and spirit.
- Cleansing - A ritual that involves meditation and opening one's mind to release pent up stress and negative thoughts.
- Guidance - A personal meditation session where the priest counsels on the individual's personal or spiritual struggles, and offers advice based on their vast knowledge.
- Reveria - A unique, exhausting, and difficult ritual that allows one to vividly relive past events as the day they occurred. This has been used both for euphoria and practical purposes.
