Gabilzaharan is a Dwarven town constructed in the remains of an old quarry in the snowy biome a short distance from the home of Mixcoatl77. While Mixcoatl77 did most of the planning, it was Drathus42 who funded the dig with massive contributions of netherbrick, glowstone, gravel, and orange and brown wool. Many thanks also go to Drathus42 for his effort at digging (his amazing SuperPick simply cannot be beat.)

The name Gabilzaharan is a reconstruction from Tolkien's Dwarvish language. It is composed of three elements gabil "great", zahar "hollow", and the suffix -an, a nominalizer that changes an adjective into a noun. As such, the name means Great-Hollow-One, referring to the town's vast, open central space.

The construction of Gabilzaharan began shortly after January 1, 2012. The walls, core, terraces, and lava pool were completed by the 19th of the month.
