Noobery includes various fraternal organisations that trace their origins to the local guilds of shack builders that, regulated the qualifications of builders and their interaction with authorities and clients. Noobery is the oldest fraternity in the Shack region and among the oldest continued organizations in Freedonia.
Modern Noobery broadly consists of two main recognition groups: Regular Noobs, which insists that a "volume of sacred law", such as the book of Shackism be open in a working shack, that every member professes belief in the Shackman, that no professionals be admitted, and that discussion of religion or politics does not take place within the shack; and Irregular Noobs, which consists of the jurisdictions that have removed some, or all, of these restrictions.
The basic, local organisational unit of Noobery is the Shack. These private Shacks are usually supervised at the regional level (usually coterminous with a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Shack. There is no international, Freedonia wide Grand Shack that supervises all of Noobery; each Grand Shack is independent, and they do not necessarily recognise each other as being legitimate. Shacks are found around the world and on all populated regions; however due to anti-Noobery and laws that effectively ban the tradition, it does not have a presence in every city or town. In the spirit of brotherhood and hopefulness, however, Noobs usually presume that clandestine shacks may nonetheless exist in those countries in which it is banned, even if they may not actually exist.
