Ungriefable Tower is a historical structure built in Freedonia. It is thus named as it was the proof of concept location for the "soft" protection system it was used to pioneer, later applied to the Maze, Pyramid and other buildings.
Protection
Due to the way chunks worked, it was possible to write-protect individual chunk files at the filesystem level, preventing the server from writing out to them at unload time, but otherwise allowing any changes to take place at runtime. Thus griefers could destroy as much as they wanted, but when they left, the protected chunks would revert.
Since the advent of the mcregion file format, this protection method has become obsolete.

Location
Ungriefabletower is also remarkable for its location; it is at the 0, 0 chunk - the origin coordinate of the map. In fact it occupies that one chunk entirely, hence its size of 16x16. This was chosen to eliminate any possibility of coordinate calculation error for testing the write protection scheme detailed above, and it also serves as a useful reference point in cartography.
April Fool's Day 2015
During The Great Rollback of 2015, Ungriefable Tower was briefly the haunting grounds of Debbie the Dragon before she was slain by 
Flippeh.
The tower did not escape Debbie's wrath, but it was fortunately restored to its former glory half an hour later when the server was reverted to a more recent backup.

- Hell was formerly slightly to the south-east of the Tower.
