MinecraftOnline:About
MinecraftOnline is a long-standing Minecraft survival multiplayer server. Its primary world, Freedonia first went live the day SMP was released on 4th August 2010, and has not been restored or regenerated since, despite being live on this public server the whole time. It has grown to over 30km in diameter, and has been explored and built in by over 290,000 unique players. Everything you see in Freedonia has been built by hand, from legitimately harvested materials.
Law
MinecraftOnline is actively maintained by a group of admins and moderators, which are friendly, active and highly experienced. Rather than artificially protect structures by locking them from editing with cuboid etc, MinecraftOnline prefer to prevent griefing outright. Its zero-tolerance policy is strictly enforced, and the moderators have the tools to both detect and easily repair grief. Beside griefing, cheating, bullying and spamming are also strictly prohibited. All bans are permanent.
Hardware
This server has 64GB RAM, 8x Intel E3-1275 v6 3.8GHz, 2x 480GB datacentre-class SSDs in RAID-1, 1Gb/s full-duplex connection with zero contention, and is colocated in a well-connected data centre that is ideally suited to UK and European players. It has exclusive use of a 10Gbit connection, both upstream and downstream.
Communications
MinecraftOnline was the first SMP server to have a game-linked IRC channel, which is active 24 hours a day. Many regulars connect to the IRC just to chat with those in-game, and occasionally players join the game just to chat on IRC. See IRC for information about how to use IRC. MinecraftOnline also has a Discord server with over 9000 members as of April 2024 and a Telegram relay. It is also featured on a selection of server lists.
