Ice Boat Racing (shortened to IBR) is similar to automobile racing in real life. In essence, players are using boat-on-ice acceleration mechanics to gain incredible speeds and then use the momentum to gracefully drift through series of corners out of which a track is composed. There are multiple ways in which one can enjoy IBR, most notably Time Trial runs and Races. More details about all modes below. We recommend installing a "BoatCam" fabric mod for a more comfortable experience.
Time Trials
"To do a time trial run" means to complete a full lap (we recommend a flying start!) and record the time it took you to finish it. To record your result, place a sign with all the required information on the correct medal board. Medal board is a wall/room which contains all those signs and has information about which medal tier it is (Diamond, Gold, Iron, Wood) and what the minimum time for the category is.
You can record the time in two ways:
- If a Referee is available, you can ask them to time you manually - to do so, let them sit in your boat with you, while you drive. When placing a sign with your best result on the result board - write Referee's name in the third row.
- If no Referees are available, to have your runs recognized, you must record a video of your run and publish it to YouTube. Time your run by measuring the time between the moments your boat crosses the finish line. Write the video identifier (the part after /watch?v= in the link) in the third row of the sign.
The first row of the sign must contain your name.
The second row must contain your time, formatted as [MM:SS.FFF] (M - minutes, S - seconds, f - milliseconds).
The fourth row must contain the date on which the record was achieved.
Races, Tournaments and Rally-Cross
Rules may differ from event to event, but in general, there will be a longer period of time, called "qualification", where anyone can record their time in a time trial fashion for the qualification board. Then a certain amount of fastest drivers will be accepted to participate in the upcoming race/tournament. The one who comes to the finish first is the winner! We recommend having no more than 8 racers on the track (better yet, not more than 6) to have more space for maneuvering - older versions have worse boat interpolation than more modern game versions. For Rally-Cross there is no need to the qualification process, but there must be a lot of referee supervision. Everyone who participates in the event will do one time trial run on the track (The run may be more than 1 lap if the track is a -circuit, with the sum time of all laps) and after every participant does that, organizers will find who had the fastest time - they are the winner.
Rally Championships
Rally Championships are unique in a way that this is a race that more resembles a series of time trial runs. The organizers must select at least 3 tracks for the rally stage roster (you can select both -circuit and -rally tracks). Then on the declared date all the participants (everyone can participate, since there is no qualification) arrive to the first track and do ONE time trial run on the track (The run may be more than 1 lap if the track is a -circuit, with the sum time of all laps) while under referee supervision. When everyone finishes and the refs record results, the group moves on to the next rally stage. Repeat the process until you have visited all rally stages from the roster and then tally up the final time for ALL the stages. The racer with the fastest time wins! The event may happen over the course of multiple days, if the organizers decide to do it that way.
Grand-Prix
Grand-Prix is basically a racing event performed on multiple tracks over some period of time. Instead of racing on one single track, the organizers must select at least 3 tracks for the grand-prix roster. Then they must select an appropriate amount of racers for the format (we suggest 4-8, if the selected tracks can support that many). Then a regular race with selected participants should be performed at every selected track, with points awarded for finish places for each track. After every track was visited, tally up the points - the racer with the most points wins! The event may happen over the course of multiple days, if the organizers decide to do it that way.
BDC Certification
As in real life there exists FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), an international sanctioning body, which certifies all kinds of race tracks and equipment for safety and minimum quality level (Rally, Fomula-1, etc.), Boat Drift Club would like to take on that role here on MCO, as the organization has multiple years of IBR experience and knows what makes a track fun and challenging, and how to organize the whole racing process.
Thus there are several certificates, each granting a star ★. Not meeting the certification will give the track an empty star ☆. Certification level stars are placed in-order, so you can cross-reference a track's ranking with the criteria.
- Track must have a "free boats" chest and a distinguished start/finish line(s). The start/finish lines (and the starting grid) should be out of drivable blocks (ice/slabs/air, not out solid blocks).
- Track must be at least 24 seconds long for an above-average racer. Contact BDC officials (
Andreybork &
sharfinsk) to evaluate. - At least 80% of drivable blocks must be lit up with light level 8 or more to prevent mobs from spawning. If outside blocks are unlit, install a fence to prevent mobs from wandering on the track. Any other mob-spawning prevention methods count too.
- Track has at least one local referee and a medal board with 4 categories - wood, iron, gold and diamond. Contact BDC officials (
Andreybork &
sharfinsk) to assign times to the categories. - Track width must be no less than 11 blocks for at least 70% of track's length to allow takeovers and must have at least 4 places on the starting grid.
Tracks that do not end where they begin (start and finish lines are separate) will receive a "-rally" postfix.
Tracks that end where they begin (singular start/finish line) will receive a "-circuit" postfix.
Circuit tracks which include pit-lanes do not get a bonus star, but do get a "-pit" postfix.

Below are descriptions of all documented tracks and their BDC certification level. If you have a track that you would like to be documented - contact BDC officials (
