Category:Temporary Maps
When Freedonia is down, MinecraftOnline switches to a temporary map on Tempdoina to avoid entirely taking the server down. Most commonly, this is to maintain the server, for example by fixing databases, updating plugins and patching critical errors. Only rarely is this for a version update, but it is crucial for mitigating lag and keeping the server stable.
Each instance of Tempdonia uses its own temporary map, which is smaller than Freedoina. The admins sometimes release these to the public when Freedoina comes back. They may also reset the temporary map without notice. Tempdonia may be on a different version of Minecraft to usual and few plugins are used. Chat often does not relay to IRC, Telegram or Discord.
The rules of Tempdonia are quite different to Freedonia, vary between instances and may change at any time. Griefing and cheating are commonly allowed. However disrupting the server by Spamming, causing lag or breaking Microsoft and Mojang's terms is not allowed and staff may ban players at their discretion. Bans from a temporary map are separate to bans from Freedonia. Only certain staff have their abilities. PvP is sometimes disabled after the admins felt that players went overboard on Holidonia.

The fun in Tempdonia
Because the normal map and rules are interrupted, some players may avoid MinecraftOnline while Freedoina is down. Others build towns outside of Freedonia. Still others enjoy being able to grief and cheat for once. Instances of Tempdonia usually have a unique challenge or scoreboard gimmick; the top-scoring players often get special rewards when Freedonia comes back up.
