Intermaria (from Latin "Between Seas") - a town established by Sweetcorm in 2023 right next to a 2019 town, built by Marihaaan and LTrop, originally called “Port Bleenriver”. The last time any of them were online was in the summer of 2019, which means that the town was left abandoned until 2023, when Sweetcorm found it and decided to build upon it. A build on the other side of the hill began, and despite the two technically being separate, Nikita really likes to say that they are one “town”. This whole agglomeration ended up being called “Intermaria” because of its location and it being a choke point in the natural waterways of the region (That’s why there’s a boat route going through it). The town soon™ should hopefully feature not only a road and rail connection, but a nexus as well :D
Port Bleenriver
Port Bleenriver is the original district of Intermaria, built entirely by Marihaaan and LTrop. The name derives from river Bleen, which flows into the Sea of Cliffs to the north of the place. It was established somewhere between 16th of March and 30th of July of 2019 and was the only part of the town. The district features a few buildings with piers and an unfinished ship in port, called "The S.S. Unsinkabe II", which is currently "on hold". You can see it on the picture
Around town there are also a few player homes that have confused me, when I was researching its history. Yagamatory's home is located in a small dug out cave, next to the "You are entering Port Bleenriver" sign. Previously, I thought that Yagamatory was one of the contributors, but no, they last logged on in 2017. Also, I have recently discovered brunogarroblich's home, which consists of a crafting table, a few planks and an unfinished mine
Also, in the past, I thought that GreenGuyOfficial and Marihaaan were different people, but in reality it's the same person.
Litlsnek’s Castle
Litlsnek’s castle is a castle on an island to the east of Port Bleenriver. It was built in October 2019 by Litlsnek, who joined the server on 28th September that year, spent a month on the server and never logged on ever again. The castle features a farm that’s hanging from one of the sides, two watch towers, a large painting and the main tower with storage and bedroom as one room on the ground floor. The top of the tower is wider than the others and also unlike the others, it has a roof and glass windows
Public places
After Sweetcorm has found his residence in the tiny town, there have been new developments and districts popping up. Here they are as of 24th of March 2024:
Community Mine
This mine shaft is open for everyone to mine in and expand as far as they wish. The tunnels already stretch thousands of blocks with mostly coal and redstone left in them, as there is an increadible abundance of them in the world.
Community Farm
The Farm is not yet completed but It already has a bunch of crops like wheat, carrots, potatoes, sugarcane, etc. growing there. As well as that, on the hill next to the crop field, a cow and a sheep pen are located. People can freely use the farm but only if they leave it as they found it. The same amount or more crops and animals must remain after one's visit.
The Cyllinder
The Cyllinder is the name of the town's railway station. It was opened on 28th of July 2023 and can both send and receive passengers from the Acacia Line.
The Spawner Box
This building contains a tightly packed skeleton spawner setup inside (and a bit of it under) the building. The spawner is togglable with a lever, that's outside of the building, right (actually left) next to to the front door. It works as follows, the skeletons are first dropped down below the spawner detection area, so that it can spawn skeletons every cycle. Next they are dropped down 22 blocks under the building to decrease their health. Over there they drop onto an ice block and then pushed into a water elevator by a piston with a delay, in case more skeletons are dropping. After going up the elevator, they come to the killing chamber, where they are killed by the player and their drops are put into the chest. The chamber is up the ladder, opposite the elevator on the inside. The spawner is free for everybody to use to get XP, bones and / or arrows :D
Intermaria Nether Portal
The portal was added by Sweetcorm because he was fed up searching for shops, that sell quartz and glowstone. By the way, he doesn't have the Nether kit rank thing, so I'll leave it up to you to figure out how he lit the portal. And just so you know, the portal frame has been standing there for months unlit, until very recently ;)
Rules
The town features a set of rules which include living and building rules. All should be obeyed in order for the town to continue functioning properly
Building rules
The building rules are quite specific and if the rule doesn't give too much detail, there is room for interpretation. Here are the rules:
- Do not change the natural landscape (e.g. no major terraforming, trees don’t count)
- Connect your builds to / with paths
- Do not block the paths (good example is the Spawner Box)
- You can build in any unclaimed area
- Don't build over Y=120
- Don't build stuff that makes others upset :)
Also, a quick and important note: if you so desire, you are allowed to improve upon the public buildings, but please contact me ( Sweetcorm) first, before doing so! Mainly to get a sign in the world itself (so the mods aren’t angry) and discuss what exactly you’re planning to do, just in case :)
Living rules
The living rules are quite simple and should be common knowledge:
- Follow the server rules!
- Do not steal from others’s chests
- Don’t bully others
The Map
This map shows all districts and areas in the town. Different districts may have different policies on things such as freebuild, land use, etc. [The districts will be redrawn soon] Here is the list:
Bleenriver Nature Reserve
This district was created to protect the wildlife of the Bleen Valley within the town border. No buildings are allowed to be built here and breaking any block is also not allowed, because that damages the environment and counteracts the goal of preserving the area
Port Bleenriver Historical District
This district contains the Port Bleenriver area of the town, its historic centre, and also some land around it, so that the view from the area is preserved. No building or breaking blocks is allowed, that defeats the purpose of the district. Nobody can actually break the buildings anyway, because the server rules don't allow that and the people were last active in 2017-2019 :P
Castle District
This district houses the castle of the town, on a cliff in the middle of the Sea of Cliffs. No building or breaking blocks is allowed, as this is a historic district, created with the goal of preserving the area as is
Intermaria General Area
This is the most important part of the town, as this is where all the action takes place! People can freely build whatever they want (only if they are following the rules though) in this area, houses, farms, shops, etc. Currently this area also houses all the public builds of the town, those being the farm, the mine, the railway station, a park and two plazas / squares
Port District
Same idea as the General Area, just for industrial builds only (farms, grinders, etc). Make it look cool and industrial like, that’s the main idea. Really, it’s more of a decorative / lore wise district
The Mountain District
This district is the first part of the town that visitors who are arriving by rail will see, therefore building here is restricted. Only if your project is approved by the mayor, you will be allowed to build here! There are also special requirements and limitations for the builds in this area:
- The buildings cannot obstruct the mountains
- The buildings must be at least 7 blocks from the edge of the tracks
- No industrial builds (e.g. farms, grinders, etc.) are allowed within 20 blocks of the track
- All buildings must be connected to a pathway to the General Area
Not Assigned
This area is claimed by Intermaria, but was not assigned any districts. It is only being planned and what will be there, will be much more grand and massive than the rest of the town
Potential Expansion
There are plans to create a new general area to the east of Port Bleenriver Historical District / south of the GA that will be connected to the rest of the town with a metro line
The Flag of Intermaria
The flag was designed by Sweetcorm on the 20th of April 2024 at 2 am at night. The flag was conceptualised for a while before that and the rough layout for it was already established, that being two green and one blue stripe with the coat of arms on the border between two of them. It is in an SVG file, so that it can be infinitely upscaled without loosing quality, as well as to save storage space
Symbolisms of the Flag
The colours for the flag weren’t chosen at random. Green, azure and green, each have a meaning. The first green represents the land upon which the town is built. It conveys the idea of prosperity and wealth that the land will create. The azure symbolises water, water that is all around the town and water, that people use for transportation. Transport is a big part of the town’s identity and water is one of the main ways to get there, as well as the fact that the town is situated on a very special location, the only way to pass from the Undersea to the Sea of Cliffs. And lastly, the other green represents nature. The town is built to preserve it in the urban landscape and even has a nature reserve of its own, so it was fitting to have that on the flag
Literal Meaning of the Flag
The flag has a literal meaning as well. It simply displays an abstract representation of the town itself – a waterway between two pieces of land. The waterway in question is, of course, the Intermarian Channel, the only waterway that runs through the town. As you can see, the water is azure and land is green. It’s a pretty simple idea and it looks pretty good as well
The Coat of Arms
The coat of arms is located on the flag itself. It also has both a literal and figurative meaning.
Literal Meaning
It’s a boat with the bridge behind it. It’s, in fact, a real boat, built by the original members of Port Bleenriver next to the bridge. Also, the boat is shifted to the side, because that’s roughly how it is in game as well
Figurative Meaning
The boat on the coat of arms symbolises transport, which is very important for the town. It is also located between the green and the azure strips, the ones that represent land and water. This represents their synergy, as together they are the backbone for all the transportation in town. The background is the bridge, which is both literally representing it, as it was the main connection to the town before rail was established and the six columns, that are displayed, represent the six districts of the town, the ones, you can see on the map above
Location / Places nearby
The town is located in a spot with not too many things close by. The town is located literally underneath HyperRoute 15 highway and is connected to the Acacia Line of the FRS with its train station. Using HyperRoute 15 one can get to places like the villages of Treesland and Las VeReden, towns of Trollvil, Ellandria, Sky Fields and Stellaria, as well as cities of Highlands and New Louisville. The highway also connects the town to different castles, like Fort Matthews and the Seaside Castle. Using the railway one can get to even more places, like, for example, Verua, Fourth Bay, Acacia Glade and more on the Acacia Line and even on the Occidental Line if change in the FRS South Hub. Other notable places nearby include The Dank Tower of The Dank Town, Ling's Tower, the town of Taitsumairi, Inselstadt and the Mesamazon River just to name a few. There are definitely more notable places and settlements that are not on the map but getting their names is too tedious for a simple overview (you can find some of those on the River Bleen wiki page).
Other
The town is open for building for everyone, if you didn’t know already. When looking for a spot to build, make sure that your build is following the rules and you’re set to go! If you want to, you can write me ( Sweetcorm) about it, but it’s up to you. Also, look at this cool picture:
Nowadays the bridge has been redone by LewisD95 after flamehaze97 made his roads free build, so this image is almost like an archive of what the bridge used to look like. That’s what photographs are actually, aren’t they?
