Primrose is a developing city and wider urbanized area in the Northeast Borderlands. Primrose was originally founded in 2023 by getplayerhead.sh?butternutbamboo&16.png butternutbamboo and has recently been undergoing much new development and activity thanks to the hard work and support of many different players.

The City has a large and diverse landscape and is designed to accommodate a wide array of player building styles ranging from decorating apartments to building houses and larger buildings.

This section briefly lists the different options available for people looking to join the City. For more details on the building resources and materials available, see Primrose#Farms and Primrose#City services.

Apartments

The City has a large and growing number of apartment buildings that players can move in to.

Apartment permissions are managed by the building owners. If you're unsure who owns a building, feel free to contact city staff!

As of June 2026, all of these apartments are free, though this is subject to change at the discretion of apartment building owners.

Houses

Outside of the main streets, Primrose is surrounded by large areas of land where people are free to build houses.

There are no restrictions on house style. The main restriction is that houses not be more than 100 blocks tall, though this can be waived by city staff. For exact wording, see Primrose#Suburban.

All house plots are free.

Buildings

Within the main streets, Primrose has many urban plots available for the construction of larger or more urban-styled buildings.

As with above, there are no restrictions on building style. However, urban plots differ from the surrounding suburbs in a few key areas that are designed to keep downtown consistent:

  • There are more building restrictions in order to accommodate city infrastructure: see Primrose#Urban.
  • We require either a building sample or a schematic or reference before you can get an urban plot. If you're new to the server, building a house in the suburban area can be a great way to put up a building sample that you can point at! :)

All building plots are free.

Instructions for City Staff

Onboarding new developers

Before being given a plot to build in, new builders should be asked to sign a copy of a book stating that they agree to the building codes posted in City Hall. Book & quill materials are available in the basement of City Hall where the signed books should then be placed.

Current status

Primrose is currently in early planning stages and various municipal infrastructure is being set up to support development in the City. Please reach out if you'd like to help with infrastructure work or develop a plot!

Transportation

Primrose strives to make travel and movement as simple and convenient as possible for residents, visitors, and others in the area. To this end, the City has several different modes of transportation both within the city and around the surrounding area.

How to get here

There are a few different options for getting here from Spawn:

  • Nexus: The Primrose warp pad is located in Nexus Pink 3 (North; second pad on the right). You can also get directly to the Portside Industrial District from a warp pad in the farms and malls Nexus building, behind Nexus Blue in Nexus Central.
    • Alternatively, an ice tunnel exists that will get you directly to the Portside Industrial District from Mosaic Mansion (Nexus Red 1; second pad on the left).
  • The FRS: To get here by FRS, board on the Oriental Line and use /st Primrose.

Local transportation

  • Streets and avenues: Streets and avenues serve as the basis for Primrose's transportation system and are the most commonly-used transportation infrastructure. Streets and avenues are distinguished as follows:
    • Streets run from West to East and are numbered incrementally from South to North. Streets built to the South of 1st Street follow the alphabet in the opposite direction, from North to South.
    • Avenues run from South to North and are numbered incrementally from West to East. Streets built to the West of 1st Avenue follow the alphabet in the opposite direction, from East to West.
  • Underground ice tunnels: Under each street and avenue is a packed ice tunnel at the bedrock level, allowing for faster travel. These tunnels are marked with the corresponding names of the streets and avenues above. Streets are numbered with black letters on white banners while avenues are lettered with white letters on black banners. Lifts between the ice tunnels and the surface are located along avenues at regular intervals.
  • The subway: The Primrose Metro is the City's subway system and is currently being built.

Regional transportation

  • The FRS: /st Primrose via the Oriental Line.
  • Regional roads: Several roads extend beyond the City's jurisdiction, providing access to settlements in the surrounding area.
  • Boat routes: There are currently two main boat paths connecting Primrose to the northern Freedonia ocean:
    • To the West, people can sail through Blue Hill Harbor and through the Blue Hill Harbor Tunnel to reach Undertal and follow the buoys to the ocaen.
    • To the East, people can sail through a set of canals connecting to the ocean near Mosaic Mansion.
  • Regional rail: A regional rail system is currently being planned.
  • Elytra port: An elytra port is currently being planned. The port will have a lift up to build height and extend above Primrose Harbor to aid in players taking off safely during high-TPS situations.

Farms

The City has several farms available for public use. The most high-volume farms are located in the Portside Industrial District to minimize server load while people are in other parts of the city.

Zones and building codes

A few different zones with accompanying building codes have been set up to ensure a consistent environment for the City.

Developers must agree to the code governing their prospective plot / build area before construction or excavation can begin. Please be sure to follow the building code for your plot's zoning type!

A copy of these codes is available in the basement of City Hall (Eastern section).

Municipal

Municipal areas may only be built in by City staff or other approved developers and can be modified at their discretion.

Urban

The building code for urban zones is as follows (updated November 2nd, 2023):

  1. City staff have permissions to all builds.
  2. Do not modify the main road layout.
  3. Structures may not exceed the horizontal limits of their plots. Plots have no vertical limits.
  4. The walls of the ground floors of structures must be set back at least 1 block from the road. This setback area can be used for any other purpose.
  5. Structures may make contact with each other if their owners agree to it.

Exceptions may be granted by contacting City staff to allow, for example:

  • Merging or dividing of plots
  • Construction of sky bridges between structures

Suburban

The building code for suburban zones is as follows (updated November 2nd, 2023):

  1. City staff have permissions to all builds.
  2. Structures may not be greater than 100 blocks tall. There is no limit on building depth.
  3. Structures may make contact with each other if their owners agree to it.

Exceptions may be granted by contacting City staff to allow, for example:

  • Construction of very tall suburban structures

Private property rights

City staff and developers will not take any items from privately-owned containers or displays.

This refers to any block or entity that stores items, such as:

  • Chests, shulkers, furnaces, hoppers, etc. (containers)
  • Item frames, armor stands, etc. (displays)

and can be considered privately owned, such as:

  • Containers and displays in private residences such as apartments and houses
  • Private containers and displays in publicly-owned areas, such as post office / safe deposit boxes

If, for whatever reason, a privately-owned container or display needs to be moved, then its contents will be moved either to the new location or the owner's post office / safe deposit box.

Moving privately-owned containers and displays is highly discouraged and developers are encouraged only to offer access to them once building layouts are finalized.

City services

City services are free. Contact City staff if you are interested!

For developers

  • Building consulting / assistance: Assistance in the design and/or construction of various structures. Includes, but is not limited to:
    • Build access to the Primrose plot on Builder's Refuge.
    • Assistance with materials collection / organization / delivery.
    • Assistance with placing blocks as per schematics'
  • Storage / autosorter building access: All developers are given permission to lock / unlock chests in the storage / autosorter building.
  • Excavation: Removal of blocks within an area of your choice of any depth, including down to bedrock. The area must be within the city limits and you must have permissions to it. City staff get first choice of any ores excavated by them and any unused materials will be stored in the storage / autosorter building.
  • Beacon rental: Placement of a temporary beacon of any size within city limits. You must have permissions to the area where the beacon will be placed.

For residents and developers

  • City-restricted resources: All residents and developers are granted access to City-restricted resources. Includes, but is not limited to:
    • Locked chests in the Primrose Archives Building.
    • Storage reserves at various farms.
  • PO box: A personalized, private storage box in the central post office where you can store and receive items.
  • Receiver installation: Installation of MC0111 wireless transmitters connected to special circuits located in City Hall.

For affiliated territories

  • Transportation build-out: Construction of roads, above- or underground railways and stations, ice tunnels, canals, elytra stations, or other infrastructure to facilitate transport to and from the City or other affiliated territories.
  • Embassy privileges: Construction of an embassy in Primrose.
