Mayor of Freedonia
The Mayor of Freedonia is a position attained through the annual Freedonian Sham Election. Any player may run for the position by being nominated, or nominating themselves. The current Mayor of Freedonia is 
Ellen124. In the case that the mayor is unable to fulfill her duties, then the Vice Mayor, 
xArches, must take over.
Powers
The Mayor of Freedonia is a figurehead position. As such, the Mayor receives no benefits, rewards, awards, or any other special consideration beyond bragging rights. The Mayor may at any time:
- Give speeches.
- Call meetings.
- Participate in photo ops.
- Shake hands.
- Kiss babies.
- Any other activity which carries no administrative or political weight.
Players, of course, are not required in any way to listen to the mayor, follow the mayor's instructions, et cetera.
Given the obvious burden of responsibility placed upon the shoulders of the mayor, not all may be suited to this position.
History
The Mayor of Freedonia was a position created on December 2, 2012, with the election of the first Mayor of Freedonia, Ellen I ( Ellen124). Conceived of by 
shypixel, the first annual Freedonian Sham Election was held to elect a player to this impotent and largely inconsequential role, as a reflection of Freedonia's need to stamp its mark on the face of worldwide politics. Administrated by 
werdnaz and 
MattyQ, the first Freedonian Sham Election featured thirteen nominees:

Of the participants, Ellen124 was the only not to nominate herself. A long and fraught campaign ensued, rife with vitriolic statements and wild campaign promises. Billions of dollars were donated to Freedonian Super PACs, only to go missing following the election. In at least one voting precinct there were reports of fraud and ballot coercion. At the end of a tight race, Ellen124 was elected Mayor, with xArches serving as Vice Mayor in the case the mayor became unable to perform her duties.
A New Mayor
Nearly a decade after Ellen124 had been elected as the first mayor, 
TheGriffinLord decided to run for the office in light of both Ellen and Vice Mayor xArches having been inactive for several years. He announced his intent to become the next Mayor of Freedonia on September 9th, 2021 and planned to choose 
Ted1246 as his Vice Mayor. Many players offered their support, but others would plan to run against him, including 
TurtleCobra. The two participated in multiple political debates that consisted mostly of slander, accusations, and extraordinary promises to the masses. While Turtle sought out endorsements from notable MCO players, Griffin created an extensive political campaign in the discord and on the server. However, in the end it all was for naught. Neither Griffin nor Turtle received enough interest for the reelection to the position, so both ceased their efforts and to this day there has been no new Mayor of Freedonia.
