List of Road Routes

This is a list of all route numbers that have been assigned to roads, paths and highways across Freedonia. The page is a polished version of the live spreadsheet found here.  BillionPenny is the creator of this list, however, most of the roads are not built by them. Some are managed by the Freedonia Road Co, some are part of the Freedonia Railway System's network of sky roads, some are built by other players, and the origin of some are unknown. Work is underway to have signs placed in-game to correspond to this list. These route numbers can also be found in the MCO Road Map.

Classification

First, a route is determined to be major, minor or scenic.

Major routes are highways that connect two or more cities, towns and other important places. They may also be assigned to routes that connect a major highway to a major settlement, reflecting the importance of this connection.

Minor routes are assigned to highways and roads that connect to smaller settlements. Often these act as alternative routes to major highways, and roads may be of a generally lower quality than major routes (e.g. no lighting). A minor route number may also be assigned to a smaller highway that connects two major routes.

Scenic routes are minor highways that do not necessarily connect to any place, but have a deemed historical or aesthetic significance that is worth recognising.

Numbering Rules

Route Number Ranges

• Routes 1-299 are reserved for major routes (approx. 41% assigned)
• Routes 300-599 are reserved for minor routes (approx. 32% assigned)
• Routes 600-999 are reserved for scenic routes (approx. 3% assigned)

As a contingency, when the first number ranges are exhausted:

• Routes 1000-1299 are reserved for future major routes (Route has already been assigned as a proof of concept)
• Routes 1300-1599 are reserved for future minor routes (Routes and have already been assigned as a proof of concept)

Routes are given numbers according to the direction that they generally travel; north/south or east/west.

North/south routes are assigned odd numbers, and east/west routes are assigned even numbers. If a route is diagonal, a judgement call is made based on the start and end points of the road.

Numbers increase heading away from Spawn; below is an example.

Cardinal Routes

These are the four main sky roads that radiate out from above spawn. Rather than numbers, they have two letters that are directly derived from the FRS line above which the road sits.

• OR - Oriental Highway (north)
• LT - Lavatown Highway (east)
• OC - Occidental Highway (south)
• GN - Great Northern Highway (west)

Colours

In-game, numbers are shown on signs, which are mounted on wool blocks corresponding to the part of the map the road is in. The colours relate to the colours of the FRS lines in that direction.

For instance, all signs built in the north region are mounted on dark blue wool blocks. There may be some overlap around the Spawn region.

On this list and on maps the numbers appear on a shield shape: white numerals on a background with the colour corresponding to the part of the map the route is in. if a route substantially crosses the region borders, the road will have multiple shield colours for each region. Scenic routes display the number in a brown pentagon.

Major Routes

These are highways that connect two or more towns or settlements, or run from a major highway to a large settlement. These are assigned numbers between 1 and 299.

In mid-2023 contingency plan was also put in place for when these numbers are potentially exhausted: major routes are to be assigned numbers between 1000 and 1299.

Minor Routes

Minor routes are less-important highways or roads that connect smaller communities. They often act as alternate routes for travel between towns. Some minor routes do not have their numbers signposted, and the number is assigned for documentation purposes. Minor routes are assigned numbers between 300 and 599, following the same numbering rules with the 300s generally being closest to Spawn.

In mid-2023 a contingency plan was put in place for when minor routes are potentially exhausted: numbers 1300 through 1599 are to be assigned to future minor routes.

Scenic Routes

Central Routes

Central Routes are given to key thoroughfares inside the Spawn Wall, and are numbered in a special way. The area inside the spawn wall is broken up into eight sections, labelled 1 through 8. (See map at right)

The number is formed by the letter C, and three digits. The first digit is the section in which the road starts. The second digit is the section in which the road ends. The third digit is used as an identifier in case there are two routes that join the same locations. For example, route C451 begins in section 4 and ends in section 5. If the road starts and ends in the same section, the first two numbers are the same; for example, route C661 begins and ends in section 6.
