The Portal Nexus, AKA Project Anubis, is a project established on 6 April 2011. Contracted by the government, headed by getplayerhead.sh?Zymes&16.png Zymes and getplayerhead.sh?Kiatarie&16.png Kiatarie, the Freedonia Portal Co. set out to build a global portal network across Freedonia.

Due to issues with long-distance travelling using trains, alternative transportation research and government funding successfully invented the world-changing portals. After numerous years of testing in underground labs, the ability to bend time and space achieving instantaneous travel from one point to another was successful.

Project Anubis is a project undergoing continual development and expansion, the final goal of which is to link all Freedonia with a portal network. Although referred to collectively as Project Anubis, this is actually composed of a variety of buildings of multiple classes, positioned throughout the map.

Freedonia Portal Co. is not responsible for possible brain or retina damage using our portals.

Location

The Nexus system can be accessed by going to the back of the visitor center, which you will see a platform that says "NEXUS" to the right.

How to get to the Nexus

Commands

You can find the nearest nexus to you with the /nearestnexus command. This can be helpful for other players trying to travel to you.
Command usage:

  • /nearestnexus - find out the name and distance of your nearest nexus connection.
    • /nearestnexus dest|hub|branch - choose to find the nearest destination, hub or branch.
    • /nearestnexus nexus - find the distance from the nexus given.
    • /nearestnexus list - show a colour coded list of nexus hubs and branches.
    • /nearestnexus help - show ingame command usage for /nearestnexus.

Connecting to the Nexus

For players looking to connect their settlement to the nexus system, the settlement should:

  • Have active player traffic to and from the location or provide reasons for people to visit the location (active settlement, impressive builds, or resources like public farms).
  • Have existing transportation routes such as Boat Routes, Railways, roads, nether tunnels (have at least 3, linking to the FRS is highly recommended).
  • Have a good wiki page with an infobox, images, and information.
  • Be horse-friendly so that the entry pad location is suitable for players riding horses and that they can at least return to the nexus with the return pad (3 blocks high for entry and exit of the Nexus).

Settlements already close to existing nexus connections or warps are less likely to be given their own connection. Several destinations can have their own shared nexus destination if they are close together.

Branches of the Nexus

Concept sketch of network layout

There are nine main nodes, the central node, and eight branches around it.

The central nexus is placed at the precise geometrical centre of Freedonia based on the centre of a circle encompassing the complete distribution of player homes at the time of creation (the calculation of which position required a solution to the notorious least circle problem). Each of the nexus branches is located at a point precisely 2000m away from the centre on the cardinal compass directions - North, North-East, East, South-East, South, South-West, West, North-West.

Each nexus appears reminiscent of a key when seen from the air, symbolizing how Project Anubis unlocks Freedonia to the masses.

The nexus hubs were completed incrementally. After finishing the Proto-Nexus (Nexus East) getplayerhead.sh?SlowRiot&16.png SlowRiot distributed copies of the Nexus over Freedonia, starting on the 1st of May 2011. All 8 nexuses are complete.

Secondary hubs

Each branch node gives access to three local hubs, each of which provides onward travel options to local destinations. Hubs are designed for the expansion and addition of new portals and may have connections to local railway systems for both departures and arrivals.

Borderland Hubs

In addition to the local destinations, these secondary hubs lead to Borderland Hubs. These were added on March 2022 in a defunct state, and were revived after the Petrifaction. These hubs take you to chunks newly generated on 1.12 from each Nexus local hubs and do not feature further local destinations.

Travel within the Nexus

The intention for Nexus travel is that every trip passes through the Central Hub. One may start at any hub or branch by taking the Return Pad that leads back in the direction of the Centre, and then continuing to the destination along a different branch and hub line. If the destination is linked to the same hub then it is not necessary to go all the way to the Centre.

Return Travel

Each branch and hub is equipped with a Return Pad that links to its "parent" node in the Nexus. This pad is located behind the player taken from the facing upon arrival at a node.

Destinations

Each nexus is colour coded with a primary Minecraft colour for its compass direction, based on a colour wheel concept. The nexus buildings themselves are identical, differentiated only by their coloured stripe, which makes it possible to quickly identify your nexus location.

The live map will show an orange marker at each nexus node with a link to its wiki page.

Central Node

Several impressive monuments are built around the Central Node, including Project Angel. Many noob homes dot the surrounding terrain due to the high level of traffic around the area.

A city and large amounts of infrastructure were planned for construction around The Central Node. However, such plans never came to fruition, as the area lies formally unsettled.

Players are able to get to Nexus Central by using the nexus pad in the Visitor Centre at spawn. It is also possible to reach it using the Return pad in any branch or hub.

Branch - North (Pink)

Although the closest feature is Casa de Austria located amidst a warmer and thawed climate, the local climate around this nexus is in fact quite frigid towards the North-West. Nestled on a developed flat beach area with a large lake, it offers a convenient location for exploration by foot! This nexus hub features a road link to the nearby Casa de Austria.

Branch - North-East (Red)

  • Stripe colour: Red
  • Linked to Central Nexus.
  • Closest feature: Spawn.

This nexus node served as the prototype for the outer nexus design, which is repeated in the other nexus nodes constructed, the only differences being individual signage and stripe colours. This high-traffic location is the nearest nexus to Spawn. This nexus is near a lot of remarkable landmarks such as WeepingMiner and NewSeattle. You also have a stunning view of the WoodenCastle and Yggdrasil. Following the road north will take you to the Clubhouse built by TBSliver himself!

Branch - East (Orange)

  • Stripe colour: Orange
  • Linked to Central Nexus.
  • Closest feature: Watershire.

Located in hilly terrain adjacent to a lake, this nexus lies close to the cardinal road link running south to Watershire. Many players have made this local area their home because of the amount of land this nexus has surrounding it. This nexus is mostly well known for its fast travel to the famous Lava Town.
